September 13th, 2008 - Weekend Gaming Project It's been two years since I've done anything with the site. The reason is fairly simple - I haven't run any 7th Sea campaigns in that time. (Well, I have, but it was very brief and didn't require anything new from what's already on the site.) However, recently I've been thinking about a new campaign, and house rules, and everything, and I've decided to give Foul Weather Jack's a thorough going-over. And that will be my weekend gaming project. My original vision for the site was to be primarily a resource site for all the 7th Sea GMs and players out there to come and "borrow" what they liked from it, and secondarily, a campaign site for my players to use. I think my vision was flawed, though; it should have been the opposite. It's a subtle difference in thought process, but will make for subtle differences in how I present things on the site. I'll be presenting things for my players. If anyone else "out there" likes what they see and wants to use it in their own games, then so much the better. I'll be revisiting all the house rules in this site. Some of them I no longer use in my own games and I'll be marking them with a graphic indicating so. I want to keep them on the site, though, for reference or for others to like or dislike. Some of the rules need to be reworked a little. I also have two new house rules to put up. Both of these were inspired by John Wick - one from a conversation with him, and the other from his newer games. I will also be editing a lot of articles for misspellings and readability and such. And recently, I found a bad link, so I'll be checking every one of them. Speaking of links, there are a lot of them on the Links page. I'll be checking each of those as well to make sure the sites they go to are still in operation. Foul Weather Jack will no longer offer any polls to participate in. I don't think the site ever had so much traffic that the polls were overly meaningful. Also, I had a problem with the "free polls" site I was using to create the polls from. That being said, I can always create polls on my Weekend Hero message board.
August 14th, 2006 - Sweeping Changes While I was sitting in my hotel room Saturday night at Gen Con, I began toying around with the site's logo banner. And of course, that has led into completely rearranging and changing the entire site. I like the new look, and I hope you will too. All the old information is still here, you just have to find it. Read the descriptions to the right of this column for help. And, of course, if you discover a broken link or anything like that in the site, please speak up and let me know. I reorganized and changed the entire site over in a single day, and I just may have missed something. I have a few things planned out and they're coming soon. I've got four more "20 Question" interviews lined up from folks I met at Gen Con. I also want to put up the 7th Sea scenario I ran at the Con as well. More Soon!

Where is it? The seven areas to Foul Weather Jack's are divided into two distinct groups, one for Players, and one strictly for Game Master's. Within the Player's guide, you'll find four chapters. There are three chapters in the GM's guide. Those familiar with the published 7th Sea sourcebooks will find the format recognizable. The Player's Guide In Théah, you’ll discover additional background material I created for my version of the world. Its also here that you will find fiction I've written or some of the artwork I've commissioned. You’ll discover some of the changes I’ve made to the world to better fit my own campaigns. I'll introduce new secret societies here, as well as sorceries. Also, this is where you’ll uncover new Syrneth artifacts and see what the Invisible College is discovering or inventing. Of course, what makes this Théah section different from the GM's version is that only the facade will be evident. Under Hero, you’ll find new ideas for character creation. The nuts and bolts of new Sword Schools and additional Skills and Knacks will be here. One of the prevalent things in my campaign are the many new Advanatages I've created. These will also be present in this section. In short, if its a mechanic having to do with creating characters, you can find it here. Drama contains all the new mechanics and other "house rules" I and my gaming groups have instituted into the game over the years. I'll offer variants for certain aspects of combat such as Wounding. You'll be able to find additional bits for Reputation and Repartee and a new way to look at Exploit Weakness. In Player, I'll be posting tidbits and essays of how to be a better player as it concerns 7th Sea and the genre. Also here is where I'll be giving you the synopses and updates on my own campaigns, both current and past. The Game Master's Guide The GM's Théah is much like the Player's version. But, here, we'll be pulling off the lid to take a closer look inside. Many of the topics covered in the Player's guide will be uncovered in the GM's. The secrets are in this section. Players beware! Villain contains new character creation ideas and mechanics for Villains and Scoundrels (and other NPCs) only. There will be new Sword Schools and Sorceries strictly for the GM's use. Players Beware! In Game Master, you'll find the tricks, traps, and tips to being a better 7th Sea GM. Here is also where I'll be posting scenario ideas and plot hooks. This is the section of the site where I will post the secrets of my home-based campaigns as well. My Players beware! Foul Weather Jack's Lastly, the site also contains those pieces that don't conveniently fit in either of the books above, nor should they be made to. In Beyond the Seas, Jack will be posting interviews with the designers and artists of the 7th Sea gaming suite. Inspirations contains an ever-growing listing of all the genre pieces that Jack enjoys from movies to books to art. Contributors is the page where you can find brief bios on the folks who had something to add to FWJ. Links, of course, will take you to all sorts of places on the Internet from AEG's home page to other fan sites and forum boards. And, under Contact, you will be able to discover the many ways to get ahold of Jack's humble scribe, me. |
Mission Statement 7th Sea is usually my favorite RPG (often competing with Deadlands for the spot), and I’ve done a lot with the rules and setting over the past few years and campaigns. This site is a "campaign site" for my players and I. I post our house rules here along with summaries of our adventures and stories. I also post character sketches of NPCs in my world and bits of background information which may not be canon to the "official" Théah. This site is open to any who visit it, and if anyone likes what they see, consider it shared. If anyone wants to share their own ideas on my site, I welcome it. I strictly play and GM the “roll and keep” version of 7th Sea, the original version. I’ve never been interested in Swashbuckling Adventures, which is the d20 version of the game. I use so many house rules and additions, I like to call my game "2nd Edition," and thus that monicker on the site logo. Everything in this site - so far - is in the original roll and keep mechanics. That being said, I am not opposed to posting d20 conversions, but it would be something that someone else would have to put together for me to post here (with full credit, of course). Speaking of which, I will gladly post items that other GM’s and players have created for 7th Sea. Simply click on the Contact link above and send me e-mail. What you submit will belong to you, I am simply offering a place to show others what you’ve created. This is not an official site for 7th Sea. Neither is it affiliated with Alderac Entertainment Group, the publishers of that role-playing game. It is strictly a fan site, by fans, for fans. This site is best viewed at a resolution of 1024x768 or higher. |
